Die Offenbarung Johannis — English Index
Full title: Die Offenbarung Johannis: Eine astronomisch-historische Untersuchung Author: Nikolaus Morosow Published: Stuttgart, 1912 (W. Spemann). German translation of the Russian original (1907). Foreword: Prof. Dr. Arthur Drews, Karlsruhe
Summary
Morosow applies astronomical computation to date the Book of Revelation (Apocalypse of John), concluding it was written on 30 September 395 AD during a storm on the island of Patmos, and arguing the author was John Chrysostom (Johannes von Antiochien), the famous opponent of Byzantine political-religious absolutism. The astronomical calculations were independently verified by astronomers Kamensky and Ljapin of the Pulkowa Observatory (St. Petersburg).

About the Author
Nikolaus Morosow (Nikolai Aleksandrovich Morozov, 1854–1946) was a Russian scientist, revolutionary, and political prisoner. He spent 25 years in the Schlüsselburg fortress (1882–1905), during which he wrote this and other works. He was a professor of astronomy, member of nearly all Russian natural science societies, and a direct intellectual predecessor of Anatoly Fomenko’s New Chronology. The Russian Orthodox Church had this book banned as ‘harmful to the Orthodox Church’ (c. 1908).
