Eponym Words — Forgotten People Behind Everyday Language (open)
TL;DR: Lane B of the lexical redaction hub: many common words and surnames were people in forgotten Horde-era or Crusade-era events, later buried under handbook etymology and re-anchored to actors, brands, or homophone objects (food, places). Patsey, Moran, and Bacon are seed examples — not yet validated in-repo. This dossier tracks candidate rows and falsifiers.
Status: Open — structure only; rows need primary research. Hub: Lexical redaction hub §2 Lane B

1. Author thesis — person → word → rebrand → forget
When establishment history rewrote the Rus–Horde and Crusade layers, personal names in oral memory could:
- Crystallize into nouns, surnames, or place-names
- Detach from the forgotten event via Protestant / Latin spelling drift (Lane A)
- Re-attach to a modern celebrity, brand, or commodity (actor, food company, city) — oscillating public memory
- Toxic-name whitewash (author): vilified historical bearer of a name → beloved modern celebrity with the same surname or given name — establishment re-popularizes the token so the old charge cannot stick (flagship: Francis Bacon → Kevin Bacon; see §2c)
- Seal under handbook etymology (“from Old French…”, “from Germanic…”) with no person in the chain
Not claimed: every word is an eponym; every celebrity name is a redaction. This is a search lane for high-suspicion tokens the author flags.
2. Candidate table (seed — open)
| Token | Author / folk suspicion | Handbook default (contrast) | Modern rebrand anchor | Status |
| Patsey / Patsy | Person in slavery / Horde-fracture memory; “fall guy” sense | Patsy “dupe” — etymology disputed (Irish Paddy? pâté?); no agreed person | 12 Years a Slave (2013) Patsey — re-vivifies name as character, not etymon | Open — needs OED + antebellum corpus |
| Moran | Forgotten clan / witness / soldier? | Surname from Irish Ó Móráin etc.; place names | Rick Moran (journalist), Moran eye hospital, etc. — different lanes | Open — disambiguate each Moran |
| Bacon | Francis — KJB / redaction villain; folk memory: would cause war, fuse church–state–money into tyrannical “shadow” Christianity | Bacon ← Old French bacun “back meat”; Francis Bacon separate onomastic line | Kevin Bacon + Six Degrees meme — whitewash re-anchor; pork commodity third lane | Open — Frankenstein / Bacon; §2c flagship |
§2b — Expanded candidates (2026-06-26)
| Token | Author / folk suspicion | Handbook default (contrast) | Modern rebrand anchor | Status |
| Guy | Guy Fawkes — failed revolutionary (1605); Reformation resistors; folk solidarity: “we are all still guys” after his death; 17th-c. English revolutions as population pacification for new state | Guy ← French guie “guide” or personal name Guy; effigy → generic man (handbook) | Anonymous mask; V for Vendetta; Bonfire Night oscillation | Open — resistance memory (contrast §2c whitewash); compare Boycott |
| Boycott | — | Documented eponym: Capt. Charles Boycott (1880) | verb boycott | Documented — falsifier anchor for Lane B |
| Lynch | Lynch law — act fused to surname; William Lynch / Charles Lynch / Judge Lynch candidates; verb = “do what Lynch did” (inverse of weak-handbook blur) | Disputed; often linked to William Lynch (1740s?) — weak documentation | surname Lynch; David Lynch (filmmaker) — §2c ambiguous | Open — strong eponym behavior |
| Judas / judas | Passion betrayer → traitor label | Judas ← Hebrew Yehudah; judas “peephole” separate? | Judas Priest (band); rock opera; stock villain — see §2c | Open — cross Jew word |
| Draco / draconian | Lawgiver → harsh rule | Greek Drákōn; draconian 19th c. | Draco Malfoy, etc. | Open |
| Mesmer / mesmerize | Franz Mesmer → verb | Documented person → verb (18th c.) | New Age / hypnosis rebrand | Partial — person trace documented; redaction angle open |
| Casanova | Person → womanizer type | Giacomo Casanova | perfume, media trope | Partial |
| Pugachev | Horde rebellion name → ? | Russian historical figure | rare surname | Open — timeline Pugachev |
| Arius → Arian | Heretic name → theology label | Greek Áreios; Arian christology | Do not merge with modern “Aryan” without tiers | Open — Lane A + theology |
Add rows when a new name is flagged; do not upgrade to “documented” without dated attestation chain or explicit refutation.
§2c — Toxic-name celebrity whitewash (author, 2026-06-27)
Author: Some names were hated in the redaction era — readers knew what the bearer was doing to scripture, empire, or memory — then a modern celebrity with the same name arrives and the establishment re-popularizes the token. Folk guilt cannot attach to Kevin Bacon the way it attached to Francis Bacon the redactor; the surname is scrubbed by likability.
Pattern (search lane):
| Step | Mechanism |
| 1 | Historical figure tied to mass print / Bible / chronology seal → villain in oral memory |
| 2 | Name also exists as common noun or homophone (pork bacon, traitor judas) — Lane B blur |
| 3 | Celebrity with same name peaks in film / music / meme culture → positive affect replaces negative |
| 4 | Handbook + media treat names as unrelated homonyms |
Candidate table (open — expand on author request):
| Historical vilification lane | Modern whitewash anchor | Notes | Status |
| Francis Bacon — KJB / Shakespeare–Bacon authorship; redaction “would cause war,” church–state–money tyranny | Kevin Bacon (actor); Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon (1994 meme → ongoing) | Flagship case; Hidden History of Words | Open — author-plausible |
| Judas — Passion traitor; stock villain | Judas Priest (heavy metal band, formed 1969; deliberate provocative name) | Partial — band chose name for shock; rehabilitation not identical to Bacon lane | Open |
| Guy Fawkes — traitor effigy | Generic guy; Anonymous / V for Vendetta retransmit | Different pattern — solidarity after failed revolution, not celebrity whitewash; see Hidden History of Words — Guy | Open — author resistance read |
| Lynch — lynch law / racial terror verb | David Lynch (filmmaker) | Same surname; fame valence ambiguous — not clear establishment scrub | Open — weak |
| Draco — harsh lawgiver; draconian | Draco Malfoy (Harry Potter) | Fiction character, not living celebrity; partial meme rehabilitation | Open |
| Shakespeare (vilified as front / redaction mask in NC reads) | William Shatner? / no strong modern William Shakespeare celebrity | No clean same-name whitewash located | Refuted as pattern match (2026-06-27 repo search) |
| Scaliger — phantom chronology architect | — | No celebrity rebrand located | Open — no candidate |
Falsifiers: Documented PR / studio campaign linking celebrity to deliberate surname rehabilitation; birth-name changes proving no intentional re-anchor; historical Francis Bacon popular in his own century (mainstream biography).
Research hooks: COHA / newspaper “Bacon” affect 1600–1900 vs 1980–2020; Kevin Bacon peak fame dates vs KJB anniversary cycles; compare documented Boycott (negative → verb) as inverse control.
Registry: Author-unique AU-029 — toxic-name celebrity whitewash lane.

Modern consensus science and institutions are not treated as default truth; evidence tiers below adjudicate specific claims.
