Death on Mars: The MFEE and the Nuclear Massacre
TL;DR: Death on Mars: The MFEE and the Nuclear Massacre: John E. Brandenburg, PhD in Plasma Physics (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory), worked on directed energy weapons at Sandia National Laboratories and later on Mars mission propulsion. ⚠️ Editorial Note: Brandenburg’s Death on Mars is treated as a predictive programming dead end in the paradigm-threat-timeline. His isotope claims, dating, and conclusions are not used as evidence in any timeline article. This document catalogues his claims for reference only — to demonstrate that other researchers noticed the same unsolved mystery and to document how the book functions as a research trap. The timeline’s Mars catastrophe thesis is independently motivated by melted-city photography, Saturnian Cosmology, MFEE correlation, and the carbon-14 spike.
Cross-referencing John E. Brandenburg’s “Death on Mars: The Discovery of a Planetary Nuclear Massacre” (2015) with the MudFlood Energetic Event (MFEE) hypothesis, H. G. Wells’s Mars texts, and the broader predictive programming record. All Martian fiction is treated as redacted truth.

Part I: Brandenburg’s Nuclear Evidence
The Scientist
John E. Brandenburg, PhD in Plasma Physics (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory), worked on directed energy weapons at Sandia National Laboratories and later on Mars mission propulsion. He was trained in nuclear weapons physics, had classified knowledge of bomb design, and was one of the original members of the Independent Mars Investigation Team (IMIT) formed by Richard Hoagland in 1983 to investigate the Face on Mars.
His credentials are critical: this is not a speculative writer but a weapons physicist with DoD clearance reading radiometric data with the same eyes that analyzed nuclear test fallout signatures.
The Xenon-129 Signature
The Viking landers (1976) measured the isotopic composition of Mars’s atmosphere. Among the findings:
- Xenon-129 was superabundant — instead of being spread evenly across five stable xenon isotopes (128–136) as on Earth or in meteorites, Mars’s xenon was almost entirely Xe-129
- Argon-40 dominated the argon isotopes — far more than on Earth
- Krypton was “reverse fractionated” — lighter isotopes more abundant than heavier, the opposite of what atmospheric erosion produces. The only distribution resembling it: the Sun’s nuclear furnace
- Nitrogen was disturbed, with the heavier isotope more abundant
- Potassium was barely detectable in the soil, yet the atmosphere was saturated with its decay product (Ar-40)
When Brandenburg mentioned the Xe-129 superabundance to a nuclear physicist at Sandia — a man who monitored Earth’s atmosphere for covert nuclear tests — the physicist’s reaction was immediate:
“Somebody nuked them. That’s what the Xenon 129 super-abundance means.”
The physicist then “walked away, out of the library and down the darkened hallway” — he had caught himself discussing classified material in an unclassified area.
The Fingerprint of Fusion-Driven Fission
Brandenburg’s analysis shows that the Xe-129 pattern does not match:
- Natural nuclear reactors (wrong neutron energy, no craters)
- Slow fission chain reactions (wrong isotope distribution)
- Atmospheric erosion processes (explains heavy-over-light, not the reverse)
It does match:
- 14 MeV fusion neutrons shattering uranium-238 and thorium-232 — the exact process inside a hydrogen bomb’s fissile jacket
- The Xe-129 component that appeared in Earth’s atmosphere since the 1950s due to hydrogen bomb testing
Specifically: advanced hydrogen bombs wrap a fusion core in a uranium/thorium jacket. The 14 MeV fusion neutrons shatter this jacket, producing a characteristic fission product spectrum dominated by isotopes in the mass-129 region. This “violent high energy fission” produces far more Xe-129 than any reactor process.
“The xenon ‘fingerprint’ was thus of violent high energy fission, not any kind of reactor.”
Krypton-80: The Neutron Irradiation Proof
Several Mars meteorites contain superabundant krypton-80 — a decay product of neutron capture on bromine-79. This can only be explained by the rock being heavily irradiated by neutrons before being launched into space from Mars.
Further: Mars’s surface contains much more uranium, thorium, and radioactive potassium than the Mars meteorites (which were originally subsurface rock). This means Mars is covered by a thin surface layer of radioactive debris — scattered from two explosion centers.
Two Explosion Sites
The radiation maps of Mars’s surface (Mars Odyssey Gamma Ray Spectrometer) show two centers of radioactivity:
- Near Cydonia Mensa — in Mare Acidalium (the larger explosion)
- Near Utopia Planum / Galaxias Chaos — the second site
These two centers correlate precisely with the two archaeological sites where Face-like monuments and pyramidal structures have been found:
- Cydonia: The Face, the D&M Pyramid, aligned objects
- Galaxias Chaos: Two additional face-like structures (Galaxias A and B), ruined cityscape features
The explosions were airbursts — no deep craters at the detonation centers. This rules out reactor explosions (which would be underground) and confirms weapons deployed from above.
The Yield
Brandenburg calculated the energy release from three independent methods (Xe-129 abundance, Kr-80 neutron fluence, and surface U/Th layer thickness). All converge on approximately:
~1 billion megatons (10²⁵ joules)
Equivalent to a 70km asteroid impact. Sufficient to produce a global ejecta layer of 4 meters. A planetary-scale catastrophe that “would have wiped out almost all life present on Mars.”
The device dimensions: a cylindrical shell approximately 800m tall, 100m diameter, 10m thick — roughly the size of the Burj Khalifa — containing a massive fusion core wrapped in a natural uranium/thorium fissile jacket. One retired nuclear weapons expert called the Th/U-238 mixture “nuclear ANFO” — cheap, naturally occurring, and effective for planet-killing.
Brandenburg’s Conclusion
“Mars had been murdered by some other intelligent entity.”
The weapons were deployed from space. No indigenous species would nuke its own planet from orbit. The two archaeological centers were specifically targeted. Brandenburg concluded that a second, spacefaring civilization discovered the Martians and destroyed them — targeting the civilization’s population centers with nuclear airbursts to ensure both immediate death and long-term biosphere collapse via radiological contamination.
“Somebody wanted to destroy all life on Mars permanently and created weapons in space and dropped them from space to do this.”
Part II: The MFEE Reinterpretation
Brandenburg’s Timeline vs. The MFEE
Brandenburg dates the nuclear event to approximately 180 million years ago (based on meteorite irradiation ages) or ~0.5 billion years ago (based on 4x Lunar cratering chronology). These dates are derived from mainstream geological timescales — the same Scaligerian chronology that the paradigm-threat framework has identified as systematically inflated.
Under New Chronology and the MFEE framework, these extreme deep-time dates collapse. The catastrophic event Brandenburg documents isotopically may be far more recent — potentially as recent as ~1774, corresponding to the Pugachev Rebellion and the MudFlood Energetic Event.
The MFEE: What Happened
From the paradigm-threat framework (see paradigm-threat-files/cosmos/mars/page.md and paradigm-threat-timeline/docs/CONCLUSIONS.md):
- Pugachev Rebellion (1773–1774): The last major challenge to the post-catastrophe order on Earth
- Directed Energy Weapons on Mars: Large-scale DEW platforms on Mars fired at Earth during opposition, targeting the rebellious territory
- The Secondary Discharge: The DEW firing backfired — a secondary energetic discharge traveled back along the firing path to Mars, devastating the Martian surface
- The MFEE on Earth: The same event blanketed Earth with mud deposits, destroyed the pre-existing civilization’s infrastructure, and produced the “mudflood” evidence found worldwide
- 40 years of desert on Earth: The war resulted in four decades of environmental devastation
The Match
Brandenburg’s nuclear evidence and the MFEE hypothesis describe the same physical event from two analytical frameworks:
| Brandenburg Finding | MFEE Interpretation |
| Two massive nuclear airbursts | The secondary discharge backfiring to Mars — the DEW energy return |
| Airbursts (no craters) | Energy arriving from space, detonating in atmosphere — not surface-launched weapons |
| Radioactive debris covering the entire planetary surface | Consistent with a global energetic discharge, not a localized weapon |
| Biosphere completely destroyed | The MFEE devastated both Earth and Mars simultaneously |
| Targeted at archaeological/civilization centers | The DEW platforms were situated near the civilization centers — the backfire hit the source |
| Weapons appear “deployed from space” | The secondary discharge traveled along the interplanetary firing path |
| Fusion-driven fission signature | High-energy plasma discharge interacting with uranium/thorium deposits near the DEW platforms |
| Mars “died twice — once by ice, then by fire” | The Lyot impact (or prior catastrophe) weakened Mars first; the MFEE finished it |
The Critical Reframing
Brandenburg assumes the nuclear holocaust was inflicted by an external alien civilization because:
- No indigenous species would nuke its own planet from space
- The civilization appeared “primitive” (Bronze Age level)
- The weapons required advanced technology beyond what the surface artifacts suggest
But the MFEE framework resolves these paradoxes differently:
- The weapons were not conventional nuclear bombs — they were the backfire from directed energy weapons, which would produce similar isotopic signatures when interacting with fissile material in the Martian crust near the DEW installations
- The “primitive” appearance of the civilization is post-catastrophe — what Brandenburg sees as Bronze Age ruins are the eroded remnants of a far more advanced civilization, just as Earth’s pre-MFEE civilization appears “ancient” to modern archaeology
- The civilization DID possess the technology — the DEW platforms were Martian technology, and the secondary discharge was an unintended consequence of their own weapons firing
The MFEE framework thus eliminates the need for Brandenburg’s “Dark Star” hypothesis (an external alien species) while retaining his nuclear evidence in full. Mars was not murdered by aliens — Mars was devastated by the backfire of its own weapons, fired at Earth during a specific historical conflict.
Part III: The Telepathic Purge Connection
Same Event or Separate?
The Jeff Wayne PC game (1998) describes a “mass telepathic execution” on Mars preceding the invasion of Earth. The MFEE framework describes a secondary discharge devastating Mars around 1774. These may be:
Option A — The Same Event: The secondary discharge WAS the mass telepathic execution. The DEW backfire produced an electromagnetic pulse or plasma discharge that specifically killed telepathically sensitive individuals — either because their neural architecture was more vulnerable to electromagnetic disruption, or because the technocratic faction deliberately calibrated the weapons to target telepathic frequencies while shielding their own infrastructure. The “mass telepathic execution” was not a separate act of violence but the experienced effect of the MFEE on telepathically sensitive beings.
This is supported by:
- The Archon Defender (2009) describes “Shard Sensitives” being killed by an energy event — sensitivity to energy = vulnerability to energy discharge
- The MFEE would have been an electromagnetic/plasma event, not a conventional explosion — exactly the type of energy that would differentially affect telepaths
- Brandenburg’s Xe-129 evidence shows the event involved intense neutron fluxes and electromagnetic effects — not just thermal destruction
Option B — Two Stages: The telepathic purge came first — a deliberate political liquidation of the telepathic caste by the technocratic faction, using either the DEW platforms or some other mechanism. This cleared internal opposition. Then, with the telepaths eliminated, the technocratic faction used the DEW to fire on Earth (targeting Pugachev), and the secondary discharge devastated Mars as an unintended consequence.
This is supported by:
- Jeff Wayne’s game places the “mass telepathic execution” as a pre-invasion event — something that happened BEFORE the Earth campaign, perhaps motivating it
- Wells’s Crystal Egg (1897) shows winged, embodied, diverse Martians; WotW (1898) shows disembodied machine-brains. The purge that transformed one into the other may have preceded the MFEE
- The MFEE destroyed the biosphere and surface cities; the telepathic purge destroyed a specific population within that civilization. These are different scales of violence
Option C — The Purge Triggered the MFEE: The mass telepathic execution — using whatever electromagnetic/plasma mechanism — had a cascading physical effect. The energy released during the purge interacted with Martian DEW infrastructure, causing a chain reaction that became the secondary discharge. The purge was intended as a targeted operation against telepaths; the MFEE was its uncontrolled blowback.
The Unified Reading
Regardless of which option, all three converge on:
- Mars had a civilization with both telepathic and technocratic factions
- An energetic event destroyed the biosphere and killed the telepaths
- The survivors — the technocratic faction — were reduced to a dying world
- They sent an invasion force to Earth (Wells’s WotW) as desperate refugees, enclosed in biomechanical host bodies (the 4ft fungoid “heads” witnesses described were the suits, not the occupants — see
wotw-martian-analysis.md§“The Host Body Theory”). The actual occupants — small beings with enlarged crania and atrophied limbs, the “grey alien” morphology — were never seen by surviving witnesses - The invasion failed because the workers’ host bodies were vulnerable to terrestrial bacteria introduced through the mandatory blood-feeding protocol. The host body’s biological components were infected; the occupants died with their suits
- The blood-feeding itself proves the occupants were biologically human. Cross-species blood transfusion causes fatal hemolytic reactions due to antigen incompatibility — yet the Martians injected human blood directly into their veins and were sustained by it. The bacteria killed them; the blood did not trigger immune rejection. Antigen compatibility at this level is only possible within the same species. Wells never describes them feeding on any non-human terrestrial animal
Brandenburg’s nuclear evidence provides the physical proof for what the fiction encodes narratively.
Part IV: Predictive Programming — The Pattern
Brandenburg himself identifies several “predictive programming” parallels that predate or parallel his findings:
Rocketship X-M (1950)
The first space-travel film in cinema history. A crew intended for the Moon accidentally reaches Mars instead. They find:
“Evidence of a dead but advanced Martian civilization: metal face sculpture, Moderne architecture-style ruins. Geiger counter registers dangerous radiation levels revealing atomic war occurred on Mars in the distant past.”
The survivors of the nuclear war are “primitive human descendants… radiation-burned tribesmen” living in caves, devolving into savagery.
Released in 1950 — five years after Hiroshima, twenty-six years before Viking found the isotope evidence. The film presents Brandenburg’s exact thesis as entertainment: advanced civilization on Mars, destroyed by nuclear war, radiation still measurable, survivors reduced to primitivism.
Dark Star (1974) — John Carpenter
Brandenburg specifically cites this film. A spacecraft roves from solar system to solar system dropping planet-destroying thermonuclear weapons on planets deemed “unstable.” In the opening scene, it destroys a red, Mars-like, living planet.
“Eerily, this matches a scenario… where a spacecraft roves from one Solar System to another, dropping planet destroying Thermonuclear weapons to destroy planets deemed ‘unstable.’”
The Man Who Fell to Earth (1963/1976)
A humanoid alien from a drought-devastated Mars-like world comes to Earth as a refugee. His planet was destroyed by a nuclear catastrophe. He tries to build technology to save his people but is captured, exploited, and neutralized by Earth’s intelligence agencies.
Star Wars (1977) — Alderaan
Brandenburg explicitly compares Mars to Alderaan — a living planet destroyed by a technological superweapon deployed from space:
“Mars was destroyed by a space power, like the planet Alderan in the movie Star Wars.”
He also notes that someone in the film destroyed Alderaan as “an example to other worlds” — elimination of a civilization pour encourager les autres.
Ender’s Game (1985)
A child trained as a weapon unknowingly commits xenocide — the complete destruction of an alien species — through a technologically mediated remote attack. The aliens communicate telepathically. The destroyer doesn’t fully understand what he’s doing. This maps onto the MFEE framework: the DEW operators on Mars may not have understood the secondary discharge consequences.
Wells’s War of the Worlds (1898)
Wells describes Mars as a dying world — cooling, drying, resources depleted:
“The immediate pressure of necessity has brightened their intellects, enlarged their powers, and hardened their hearts.”
Read through Brandenburg’s evidence: Mars is dying because it WAS KILLED. The “cooling” is the post-nuclear winter. The resource depletion is the biosphere destruction. The “hardened hearts” are the survivors — the technocratic faction that eliminated the telepaths and now rules a corpse planet.
The WotW invasion is not imperial expansion — it is refugees fleeing a nuclear wasteland they may have helped create.
Part V: Brandenburg’s Anomalous Details
Several details in Brandenburg’s book resonate with the broader framework:
1. The Sandia Reaction
When Brandenburg discovered the Xe-129 evidence pointed to nuclear weapons, his contacts in the Defense Intelligence Agency responded:
“Why don’t you publish?”
The intelligence community wanted this published. Brandenburg interprets this as clearance to release non-classified findings. In the predictive programming framework: this is managed disclosure. The information is being released on schedule.
2. The Surveillance
Brandenburg and his IMIT colleagues discovered their phone lines were tapped:
“A dead civilization on Mars and the means of its demise was considered a national security matter.”
Why would a dead civilization on another planet be a national security matter? Because the DEW technology that killed Mars is the same technology relevant to Earth’s directed energy weapons programs — the very weapons Brandenburg worked on at Sandia.
3. JPL’s Obstruction
Brandenburg documents systematic obstruction by JPL in reimaging Cydonia — deliberate release of distorted images, hostile scientists, even an attempted physical assault on researcher Vince DiPietro. JPL’s institutional behavior suggests they know what Cydonia contains and are managing the timeline of its public disclosure.
4. “Life on Mars is Death for JPL”
Brandenburg quotes a sci-fi writer: finding life on Mars would transfer control of Mars exploration from JPL (robotic programs, Pasadena) to NASA’s human spaceflight program (Houston). The institutional resistance to confirming a dead civilization on Mars is partly bureaucratic turf warfare — and partly something deeper.
5. The Paleo-Ocean
Brandenburg was the first to formally propose a large northern ocean on Mars (1986). This ocean — which he named the Mallacandrian Ocean after C.S. Lewis’s name for Mars in the Perelandra trilogy — would have made Mars habitable for billions of years. The ocean sat on the youngest terrain, meaning it persisted for most of Mars’s history. Its sudden disappearance requires a catastrophic event — which Brandenburg’s nuclear evidence supplies.
Part VI: Synthesis — The Complete Picture
The Timeline (MFEE Framework)
| Period | Event |
| Pre-MFEE | Mars has an Earth-like biosphere, northern ocean, diverse civilization with telepathic and technocratic factions. Crystal surveillance network monitors Earth. DEW platforms operational. |
| ~1773 | Pugachev Rebellion on Earth threatens the post-Saturnian order |
| The Purge | The technocratic faction eliminates the telepathic caste — either via targeted electromagnetic event or as a political liquidation using DEW infrastructure. “Mass telepathic execution” per Jeff Wayne |
| ~1774 — The MFEE | DEW platforms fire at Earth during opposition. Secondary discharge backfires to Mars. Airbursts over Cydonia and Utopia/Galaxias — the Brandenburg nuclear signature. Biosphere collapses. Surface cities destroyed. Ocean evaporates. |
| Post-MFEE | Mars becomes the dying world Wells describes. The technocratic survivors — now “bodiless brains” dependent on machines — plan the Earth invasion |
| ~124 years later (WotW) | Ten cylinders of expendable slave-workers sent to Earth. They carry Wells’s red weed seeds, feeding equipment, and construction materials. They attempt to establish a foothold and build a return vessel |
| The Invasion Fails | Terrestrial bacteria kill the workers. No reinforcements sent. The masters on Mars abandon the contaminated mission |
| Present | Brandenburg’s isotope evidence independently confirms the nuclear catastrophe. Fiction continues to encode the truth |
What Brandenburg Proves
Brandenburg provides the hard science for what the fiction encodes:
- Mars had a civilization — confirmed by the Face, the D&M Pyramid, Galaxias faces, and the extensive artificiality analysis
- That civilization was destroyed by nuclear weapons — confirmed by Xe-129, Kr-80, Ar-40, surface Th/U/K distributions, and neutron irradiation of meteorites
- The weapons were airbursts deployed from above — no craters at ground zero, consistent with either space-based weapons or secondary discharge from DEW platforms
- The destruction was total — biosphere collapse, ocean loss, atmospheric stripping, permanent radiological contamination
- The two explosion centers correspond to the two archaeological sites — Cydonia and Galaxias Chaos, the centers of the civilization
The MFEE framework provides the when (1774, not 180 million years ago), the why (the Pugachev Rebellion / Earth conflict), and the how (DEW secondary discharge, not alien spacecraft) — while Brandenburg provides the what (nuclear isotope signatures that cannot be explained by any natural process).
Together, they describe a single event: the catastrophic destruction of Martian civilization by its own weapons backfiring during an interplanetary conflict, approximately 250 years ago.
